PROVEN FUEL MANAGEMENT

What makes the Proven Fuel Management (PFM) device unique and innovative for diesel and biodiesel engine applications is its ability to achieve three key characteristics that no other solution is able to achieve. That is

1. Remove 100% of free water in diesel;
2. Remove 100% of the entrained water, achieving zero ppm of water;
3. Ability to destroy and break up the diesel bugs to less than 1 micron.

The above is achieved by treating the diesel fuel with magnetism and exposure to ultraviolet light to produce super clean (polished) diesel fuel, which in turn eliminates diesel bug issues, reduces fuel costs between 10% to 20%, and eliminates black soot from diesel exhaust emissions. COMPOSITE FIELD REPAIRS FOR STRUCTURAL STEEL

Operational pipework, hull and structural defects incurred in operational environments require platforms to return to ports for urgent defect (URDEF) rectification, and potentially dry-docking. Steel welding is a high cost, high safety risk (hot work) activity incurring long lead schedule timeframes for material and service application. FUZE’s composite (glass and carbon fibre epoxy composites) technology allows steel fabrication and welding to be replaced with advanced structural adhesives and fibres which can be applied under live conditions in difficult field environments (in air and underwater) with no hot work requirement.

VIPER WIRE ROPE LUBRICATION SYSTEMS

Traditionally wire ropes are manually lubricated by hand, which can lead to potential WHS hazards, environmental contamination, and is extremely labour intensive. A HYBRID DIESEL-ELECTRIC POWER AND PROPULSION SYSTEM FOR COMMERCIAL VESSELS

A 600kW plug-in hybrid power and propulsion system that offers a high speed, whisper quiet, zero emission operating mode has been developed. The innovative design leverages a common DC bus supported by a powerful diesel-electric generator and battery system. The system maintains a compact footprint, and provides the same power as a traditional diesel system of similar size. This enables the conversion of both existing and new build diesel-powered vessels into a hybrid. The result is a vessel with an operational range equivalent to that of a traditional diesel, while providing enhanced performance and a substantial reduction in operating costs.

PITCH CARBON LED HOUSING

We have developed a unique carbon fiber composite material with high thermal conductivity to provide an alternative to the current metallic options available for maritime thermal management applications. The first product we have chosen to apply this technology to has been LED light housings, where we have kept the same maximum housing temperature while reducing package size by 60%, weight by 75% while dramatically improving corrosion resistance. The core innovation is aligning the anisotropic fibers into a Z axis prepreg to best utilise the very high thermal conductivity.

CONCEPTUAL DESIGN OF RECOVERABLE SONAR HYBRID UNCREWED AERIAL VEHICLE (SHUAV)

Up to twelve of these morphing recoverable sonar hybrid unmanned aerial vehicles (HUAVs) are intended for deployment from the external stations of the P-8A Poseidon. Once deployed, each HUAV descends to the water’s surface, folds its wings and retracts its EDFs to perform a diving entry, and glides underwater to its intended destination where it will radiate sonar and listen. The HUAVs then ascend to the surface, take off vertically, deploy their wings, and climb to an altitude where they are reeled in by their parent aircraft. The electric batteries of each HUAV are recharged upon recovery and sonar data is uploaded for advanced collective processing.

A methodology using CFD analysis was developed to assess the consequence of explosive incidents occurring on a Warship in Harbour, allowing the RAN to undertake proper quantitative explosive risk assessments which were not previously possible and are a key requirement for the RAN to meet their WHS obligations.

Shock testing machine JASSO operates on seismic air gun technology, to represent a naval shock event more accurately, was stood up as a capability within Australia. It is the only current medium weight (1-5 tonne) shock testing capability available to the RAN.

It will feature autonomous driving functionality, real-time threat and hand field signal detection using computer vision, natural language processing (voice commands), digital messages and an intuitive UI/UX. HORASTM is currently at TRL 5 and will soon be able to detect and react to 35 different hand field signals after just ~20 days of training.
